Installing Themes in WordPress Site

First thing to do with website is you should download the theme on which you want to make your website. For this, log in to your WordPress Dashboard and go to Themes located at the top of your WordPress screen after login as shown in Figure 1.

To select a theme for your website, scroll down at the right side of the screen and select whichever theme you like as shown in Figure 2.

After selecting the website theme, you are able to see the Live Preview of the selected theme and can Activate the theme for your website by clicking on the buttons available on the bottom of the selected theme as shown in Figure 3.

After Installing your favourite theme, the next thing to do is to edit that theme. To access the Theme Editor, log in to your WordPress Dashboard, and go to Appearance |Theme Editor located at the left pane on the screen as shown in Figure 4.

If you want more variety of themes visit the WordPress Theme Directory web site at: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/. You might find a theme that you like right on the homepage, so just scroll up and down and see what catches your eye. Select from there and click on download as shown in Figure 5.

Your theme file will be downloaded in zip format. Just remember the place where it is saved for future reference.

Next, go to the Appearance » Themes page and click on the Add New button.

On the next screen, you will have the ability to select from: Featured WordPress themes, Popular WordPress themes, Latest WordPress themes, search for a specific theme, or search for themes with specific features as shown in Figure 7.

Clicking on the ‘Feature Filter’ button will allow you to sort themes based on features as shown in Figure 8. For instance, you can sort themes by subject, specific features, and layout.

Based on your search, you will see a list of themes that met your criteria. In our case, we searched for education subject. To view themes related to the Education check the Education option in Subject Menu and then click on Apply Filters Button as shown in Figure 9.

This filter gives the following result.

When you see the theme that you want to install, simply bring your mouse on top of the image. This will reveal the install button, preview button, and details button.

WordPress will now install your theme and show you a success message along with ‘Activate’ or ‘Live preview’ buttons.

Click on the activate button as shown in Figure 12, and you’ve successfully installed and activated your WordPress theme.

Install a Theme by using the Upload Method from WordPress Admin

Start by downloading the .zip file of the theme that you purchased from a marketplace or a free theme available from WordPress.

Next, go to the Appearance » Themes page in WordPress admin area and click on the Add New button at the top as shown in Figure 5 and 6.

This will take you to the add new theme page showing featured free themes. Since you already have the theme you want to install, go ahead and click on the ‘Upload Theme’ button at the top as shown in Figure 13.

You will be prompted to choose the zip file that you downloaded earlier. Select the file and click Install Now.

Once your theme is installed, you will see a success message along with the link to activate and preview the theme.

Click on the ‘Activate’ link as shown in Figure 14, and you’ve successfully installed and activated your WordPress theme.
